Introduction of 4G could see mobile shopping soar by 113%

The arrival of 4G in the UK looks set to cause a 113% increase in mobile shopping, according to eBay and retail analysts Conlumnio.

The study of over 2,000 consumers uncovered that just under a third of adults currently rely on their phones while shopping to complete activities including browsing, price checking and purchasing.

With 50.3% of respondents citing speed as a major restriction to mobile shopping, it is predicted that improved internet connection, with the introduction of universal 4G in the UK this year, will result in an even greater uptake in mobile commerce, providing a £1.8bn boost to the retail economy.

Urging business owners to get their businesses ready for mobile, senior director of mcommerce at eBay Europe, Olivier Ropars, commented: “The arrival of universal 4G will bring with it a more immersive, instant and intimate shopping experience than ever before – putting the most exciting features of mobile retail as we know it into high definition.

“Retailers must act now and think about the virtual shop window, to turn this huge opportunity into an exciting reality.”
